Researchers do not split dinosaurs into meat and plant eaters, as many people would assume. Instead, they are split between bird-hipped (ornithischian) and lizard-hipped (saurischian). Lizard-hipped species can be either herbivores or carnivores, while bird-hipped species are all herbivores. Another interesting point in this classification is that modern birds evolved from lizard-hipped species, not bird-hipped, as you may assume.
