Knee

Our knees are the largest joints in our body. Located at the center of your leg, it joins the femur (thigh bone) with the tibia (calf bone). The knee joint consists of bone, cartilage, ligaments, and tendons.

The bones that make up the joint consist of the fibula which is a long, thin bone that runs alongside the tibia. And the patella also referred to as the kneecap. Cartilage helps protect the bones. Cartilage also allows them to glide over each other during movement smoothly. Ligaments join the knee bones and provide stability. Tendons connect the bones to the surrounding leg muscles that move the knee.

Since it is such an essential and significant joint, it is prone to injury. Chondromalacia patella is a common cause of knee pain in young people. Other related injuries include osteoarthritis and meniscal tear.

Finally, protect yourself from injury by wearing proper shoes for every activity. Make sure to also follow the correct technique and form for every exercise.
