9. Bengals Are Prone To Few Health Problems

All cat breeds are prone to some health problems, and Bengals are no exception. However, because this cat is a mixture of breeds the Bengals are less likely to develop some of the major health issues in other cat types which have been brought about by inbreeding. The most common health problems for Bengals are:

  • Feline Infectious Peritonitis – an infectious condition which is usually fatal.
  • Hip Dysplasia – an abnormal hip joint which can make walking difficult for the cat.
  • Patellar Luxation – a hereditary condition where the knee cap moves out of position. This can require surgery to correct the problem.
  • Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy – a common condition where the heart wall thickens. Many cats show no symptoms, but it can cause heart failure in serious cases. If needed, treatment is with vet prescribed medication to thin the cat's blood.
