The Congo River runs a total of 2,920 miles and is the world’s deepest river. Regarding discharge by water, the Congo is second only to the Amazon River. The source of this mighty river is in the mountains of the East African Rift; lakes feed into the Lualaba River, which becomes the Congo just below Boyoma Falls. According to historians, the river formed about two million years ago. Today, the hope is that it can be used more extensively for hydroelectric power.
