Where: New York
Uncut bagels are normally tax-exempt in New York, but a bagel that has been “altered” in any way, by toasting or adding cream cheese, for example, is suddenly considered taxable and automatically jumps in price by eight cents.
Also illegal in New York: talking or looking at anyone while riding an elevator, wearing slippers after 10:00 pm, greeting someone by putting your thumb to your nose and wiggling your fingers, selling raw hamburgers, and eating while swimming in the ocean.
