6. Ancient Grains

You probably have heard of quinoa and even farro by now, but the new thing when it comes to ancient seeds (used like grains) is teff. Just like the others, it has been around, virtually unchanged, for thousands of years. The taste and look are similar to quinoa and flax seeds, but the good thing about teff is that it carries the same nutritional profile, too. It is packed with 10 grams of protein and seven grams of fiber per cup. Another grain-like food that is also becoming more popular in food trends is sorghum, which is closer to Israeli couscous regarding flavor and texture. They have a whopping 22 grams of protein and 12 grams of fiber per cup.
