4. Jackfruit

This sweet fruit is native to Southern and Southeastern Asia, but you can find it in Brazil in East Africa, too. In more recent years, jackfruit has become a new favorite. You can eat the bright yellow pods both raw and cooked if the jackfruit is ripe. A green, less ripe one can but used in vegetable dishes as well. Some people opt to use the thick texture in place of meat, but it does not have as much protein compared to tofu and, as a fruit, it is full of natural sugars. Regardless, jackfruit is popular as a pulled pork type of sandwich. It is full of healthy nutrients including vitamins A, B3, and C along with potassium, magnesium, and iron.
