4. Types

The DSM-5 lists six adjustment disorders, each with unique effects. These categories are:

  • With anxiety: Worry, feeling overwhelmed, and nervousness are predominant.
  • With depressed mood: Sadness, hopelessness, and lack of pleasure are predominant.
  • With mixed anxiety and depression: The individual experiences a combination of anxiety and depression symptoms.
  • With disturbance of conduct: Behavioral issues and recklessness are most common.
  • With mixed disturbance of emotions and conduct: Symptoms show a combination of depression, anxiety, and behavioral issues.
  • Unspecified
