Deep vein thrombosis occurs when a blood clot forms within a deep vein in the body. Such veins run deep in the muscles, transporting blood throughout the body. The leg is the most affected area by DVT. Even though anyone can develop DVT, it is more likely to occur in individuals of over 40 years of age as well as people with a family history of blood clots.
