8. Emphysema Statistics

Scientists have conducted extensive research to determine the underlying cause of emphysema, but they are largely inconclusive. Nonetheless, in attempting to link smoking to the condition, they found 85% percent of people diagnosed in the US were smokers. The remaining 15% appears to be genetics, and were generally passed down from other affected family members.
