5. Medication and milk for babies are exempt

Breastmilk, formula, and prescription medication, including eye drops, insulin, or syringes, are exempt from the 3-1-1 rule—as long as you declare them at the security checkpoint.

This means you can carry more than 3.4 ounces of these substances without a plastic bag. Just make sure your prescriptions are in their original labeled containers. Though this isn't a requirement, it speeds up the screening process.

Additionally, many states and foreign countries have their own rules regarding traveling with medications, so research the guidelines for your destination.
