4. Cream the Sugar and Butter

Place a half cup of unsalted softened butter into a large mixing bowl first. Then, use a hand mixer or stand mixer on medium-to-high speed to mix in one and one-half cups of sugar. The blades, paddles or beaters of your mixing device infuses air into the mixture, making it light and fluffy. Beat for three to five minutes or until the cream is smooth.
