4. Seeds

Just like whole grain foods, seeds have the potential of causing a range of symptoms to develop in ulcerative colitis patients. Seeds are for the most part an insoluble fiber, meaning that they are difficult to digest. This can cause irritation and inflammation, as well as bloat. In some cases, diarrhea may occur. Moreover, seeds can get stuck in the intestinal lining, further worsening symptoms. There are a variety of seed types, the most damaging of which is sesame seeds and flax seeds. If the seeds have been soaked, digestion may be easier.
