10. Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis is one of the most common causes of acquired ataxia, due to its effect on the brain and spinal cord. Some people will be affected mildly, while others may develop long-term ataxia-related disabilities. They may experience sporadic episodes of ataxia, or the symptoms may worsen over time. Multiple sclerosis usually develops in adulthood and affects more women than men. In general, life expectancy for people with multiple sclerosis is lower than average.
