The American Museum of Natural History, founded in 1869, sits on the west side of New York City's Central Park. One of the largest of its kind in the world, the museum features 45 permanent exhibit halls plus a library and a planetarium. The dinosaur exhibit is widely celebrated, as are the many realistic dioramas featuring animals in their natural habitats.
